Research
Research is a particularly important priority at our Institute. Genetic diseases are studied using cutting edge methods. We use a wide range of methods involving molecular genetics and molecular biology, cellular systems and protein biochemistry, as well a number of different model organisms, including flies, zebra fish and mice to understand and decode the functions and signal pathways of the proteins involved. Our long-term goal is to develop therapies.
Special areas of research include neuromuscular diseases, muscular diseases, skeletal diseases, kidney diseases and unclarified syndromes.
Our research is primarily supported through external funding from the DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft = German Research Foundation), the EU and the CMMC (Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne, ZMMK).
