Teaching

An excellent education for our students is of particular importance to us. Through lectures, seminars, areas of expertise and laboratory practicals, we want to get students interested in human genetics. Although the Department of Human Genetics is comparatively small, the importance of this subject is growing with increasing diagnostic and technical possibilities. In recent years, human genetic testing has become an integral part of medicine and is becoming increasingly important in the interdisciplinary care of our patients. We offer particularly committed students of biology, biochemistry or medicine the opportunity to work on scientific projects. The bridging function of the Institute between the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Cologne signals the close cooperation between the two faculties. Prof. Brunhilde Wirth teaches at both faculties and, in addition to the right to award doctorates at the Faculty of Medicine, also has the right to award doctorates (Dr. rer. nat.) at the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
